Hoosier Solarize Initiative of East Central Indiana Welcomes You

Make a Difference Today

SOLARIZE INDIANA WORKS TO AID RESIDENTS IN OBTAINING DISCOUNTED SOLAR INSTALLATIONS! Statewide, volunteers are working to facilitate the installation of photovoltaic solar panels on Indiana homes at reduced group rates. Solarize Indiana, with leadership from individuals in Columbus and Bloomington, began the Solarize Indiana initiative which resulted in an increase of solar installations in the state by 20% last year (2017). Solarize East Central Indiana had 25 installations in Muncie last fall and is now expanding it’s efforts more broadly into the east central Indiana region.

The central idea is to promote the broad use of renewable solar energy in Indiana. To do this we utilize group purchasing power for solar installations on homes and businesses. Installers were selected who are willing to work in this region, have an excellent reputation, provide the lowest pricing, and who can complete the jobs quickly. So, the difficult part of the process has been done for home and business owners!

Committed home and business owners sign a nonbinding Expression of Interest form that results in connection to the selected installer. The installer does a free evaluation of the proposed site for installation. Then contracts are signed between the individual homeowner and the installer and the installation begins. The panels and inverters are guaranteed to work at 83-91% efficiency after 25 years and may last up to 40 years.

Installing solar in 2018 still means that a 30% federal tax credit may be taken against this year’s income. The allotted time period for "grandfathering in" for net metering has decreased to 14 years in 2018 and soon will be abolished . Net metering means that, when your panels generate more electricity than your home using, the excess is fed into the grid. Then your meter runs backward, subtracting from the amount you will be billed by your utility. The net-metering time agreement and the warranty go with the house if it is sold.

Switching to solar power reduces carbon dioxide and other harmful emissions. Less emitted carbon dioxide will help mitigate climate change. More environmental and financial benefits will accrue from having more installations. Financially, homeowners benefit from much lower energy costs, net metering, and a 30% federal tax credit.

NOW IS THE TIME TO SOLARIZE. GET LOW GROUP PRICING, NET METERING FOR 14 YEARS AND A 30% TAX CREDIT ON YOUR 2018 TAX BILL!
