Committed to the Cause

Carolyn Vann

Dr. Carolyn Vann is an Emeritus Professor of Biology from Ball State University (Cell and Molecular Biology). She advised recipients of SUN grants, bringing photovoltaic solar panels to the Kennedy Library and to the Unitarian Universalist Church (these were among the first solar installations in Muncie). She and her husband, John, work with Earth Charter Indiana developing a climate resilience workshop for city officials throughout Indiana. Starting in 2017 and continuing into 2018 she and her husband have headed up Solarize East Central Indiana to bring solar to area homeowners and businesses. They also serve on the Solarize Indiana Steering Committee.

John Eliades

As a member of Boy Scouts for 58 years, I have been involved in teaching Scouts and Adult Leaders about Sustainability, Environmental Science and Recreational Outdoor Ethics. I am in charge of and maintain a Cloud BSA Library for the BSA Council for Central Indiana. This library includes an extensive collection of Resources and Interactive Power Point Presentations on these topics. I am currently creating a Sustainability Education Center in our local Camp Redwing.

Robert Koester

Robert J. Koester, AIA LEED AP, Professor of Architecture is the Founding Director of the Center for Energy Research/Education/Service (CERES), providing interdisciplinary academic support focused on issues related to energy and resource use, alternatives and conservation. He serves as Founding Chair of the university-level Council on the Environment (COTE) a clearinghouse for campus-wide sustainability.

Sheryl Swingley

Sheryl Swingley has been involved in the Muncie sustainability community for more than 12 years. She was the first Muncie resident to have solar panels installed on her house as a result of the local Solarize Indiana campaign. Swingley teaches journalism at Ball State.
